Zelensky Criticizes Lack of Advance Warning on Russian Missile Attacks

by admin477351

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has raised concerns over the lack of advance warning from the United States and other allies prior to a Russian ballistic missile attack on Sunday night. According to Zelensky, this marks the third instance in recent times where Ukraine did not receive its usual pre-emptive intelligence about impending missile threats. The absence of timely alerts has caused unease in Kyiv, with Zelensky indicating that Washington has yet to provide a clear explanation for the lapse.

Despite these concerns, U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed claims that intelligence sharing with Ukraine has been halted. Trump emphasized that Washington continues to provide critical intelligence to Ukrainian forces. Nonetheless, Ukrainian officials suspect that there might have been a temporary restriction on intelligence sharing, which potentially allowed the initial wave of Russian missile strikes to occur without prior warning. They noted that intelligence support seemed to resume ahead of a subsequent wave of attacks later that Sunday.

A U.S. Defense Department official, however, has stated that there has been no alteration in the Pentagon’s policy regarding intelligence sharing with Ukraine. This discrepancy in accounts highlights the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Ukraine, particularly between Presidents Zelensky and Trump, over the handling and progression of the war.

These tensions were exacerbated earlier in March 2025 when the U.S. temporarily suspended its intelligence sharing with Ukraine following a contentious meeting involving Zelensky, Trump, and U.S. Vice President JD Vance. Although this suspension was eventually lifted, it underscores the fragile nature of intelligence cooperation amidst efforts to bring the conflict to an end.
